Microsoft AI for Health COVID-19 Grants 2020

Given the urgency of the COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft is welcoming requests in the AI for Health program for COVID-19 grant proposals from non-profits, the academic world, and governments. This is a dedicated endeavor for COVID-19 grant requests only.

AI for Health is a fresh $60 million, five-year humanitarian program from Microsoft, established to empower non-profits, researchers, and establishment tackling some of the toughest problems in global health.

This grant scheme offers Azure cloud and High-Performance Computing competences. Their team of AI for Health data science experts, whose mission is to improve the health of people and communities worldwide, is also open to collaborations with COVID-19 researchers as they tackle this critical challenge. More generally, Microsoft’s research scientists around the world, spanning computer science, medicine, biology, and public health, will also be accessible to offer advice and work in partnership per mutual interest.

Eligibility for Microsoft AI for Health COVID-19 Grants

  • Available to non-profits, researchers, and establishments dealing with some of the toughest problems in global health

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Potential benefits and clearly defined impact on the COVID-19 response
  • Feasibility of the technical approach
  • Need for Azure Computing and/or AI to resolve the issue
  • Familiarity and experience handling Azure within your establishment
  • Estimated computing resource requirements

Focus Areas

Their efforts to support COVID-19-related research efforts will focus on five areas:

  • Data and insights to inform for people’s safety and economic impacts
  • Treatment and diagnostics, allowing research to advance the creation of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics
  • Distribution of resources, comprising recommendations on the distribution of limited assets, like hospital space and medical supplies
  • Dissemination of accurate information to minimize misinformation sharing
  • Scientific research to study and understand COVID-19.

How to Apply for Microsoft AI for Health COVID-19 Grants

To submit an application for a grant, you have to prepare a description, a maximum of three pages, of your proposal which covers the specified questions. Do not include any proprietary information in proposals. It is required that teams who obtain AI for Health COVID-19 grants will publish their work and findings in an open manner.
